Pay, and we e-file it

What we cover
We file tax year 2025 extensions for Form 990 or 990-EZ (return code 01) and Form 990-PF (return code 04). We don't currently offer other Form 8868 return codes. Form 990-N can't be extended.
Review before you pay
Upload a completed Form 8868 PDF or enter the extension online. Check the organization's details, the tax year, the return code and any tax amounts.
Review everything before you pay. When you pay, we send the extension to the IRS, and you can't change it after that. Form 8868 skips the officer-signature step that an annual return has.
The annual return still needs to be filed
For Forms 990, 990-EZ and 990-PF, a properly completed Form 8868 filed by the original deadline generally gives an automatic six-month extension. You still file the annual return separately, and any tax is generally due by the original deadline. Check the current IRS instructions for your return.

Questions
Does an extension give more time to pay tax?
No. Form 8868 extends the time to file the annual return. You generally still need to pay any tax due by the original deadline, directly to the IRS. Our fee doesn't pay that tax.
Which returns can I extend here?
Forms 990 and 990-EZ (return code 01) and Form 990-PF (return code 04). We don't support other Form 8868 return codes, and Form 990-N can't be extended.
Is the extension free if I pay for my return at the same time?
Yes. At checkout you can pay your Form 990, 990-EZ or 990-PF fee along with the extension, and the extension costs nothing. We keep the return's fee for when you file that return here. You still prepare, review, sign and file the return by its extended deadline.
