About Fast File Exempt
Fast File Exempt LLC is a small company based in Sacramento, California. We build and run our own filing software for tax-exempt organizations. You prepare and check the filing and sign it. We send it to the IRS and email you their acknowledgement.
Why we built it
We ran a private foundation of our own, and each year its Form 990-PF had to be e-filed. We could pay a preparer a fee out of proportion to a return we had already put together, or pay a filing service that charged by the schedule and made us retype the whole thing into its web forms.
Filing the return isn't hard, and the IRS charges nothing to receive it. What bothered us was paying that much just to send it. So we built the service we wanted for ourselves. You upload the return you already prepared, or fill it in here, then check it, pay one flat fee that covers its supported schedules, and sign.
Then we opened it to other nonprofits, because the 990 and 990-EZ have the same problem. We made Form 990-N free because the IRS charges nothing for it.
How we work
We file tax year 2025 Forms 990, 990-EZ, 990-PF, 990-N and 8868 that the organization’s own officers, employees or volunteers prepared. We do not currently accept returns completed by a paid preparer. We file Form 8868 extensions for Forms 990, 990-EZ and 990-PF only.
For Forms 990, 990-EZ, 990-PF and 8868, you upload a completed IRS PDF or fill in the form online. Either way, you work in the same editor, beside the IRS form, and can download the PDF to keep or share. Form 990-N is entered online. It asks for eight items and has no PDF or upload.
You check the filing and sign it, and then we send it to the IRS ourselves. Each paid return has one flat fee that includes its schedules and supporting statements. Form 990-N stays free. If the IRS rejects a return, resubmitting it is free.
Routine IRS maintenance can delay sending a filing or receiving the acknowledgement. During the annual IRS shutdown, new filings and changes wait until their system reopens. We wait for the acknowledgement and email you the IRS response, whether that's an acceptance or the reason for a rejection.
